Actually this is the first time had listen to Cory Asbury and I realized that there are other great artists in Christian Music industry aside from Hillsong and Planetshakers. As I listened to Reckless Love, I got interested to his other songs and that made me complete the entire album. Cory Asbury filled my taste in music. Secular has never run of loud and aggressive music that is why when it comes to Christian music, I’m always looking for mellow and positive music which is Asbury songs all about.

Aside from Reckless Love, I like Water and Dust. It is very soothing and the chorus is very catchy is especially on the part of “don’t lose hope”. I also noticed that Cory Asbury song’s are easy to play which is a plus for me and also for those who want also to play a christian song and not to think how skillfully they are in playing it. As part of worship team, I always get caught of decision making of either I’m going to focus on worshiping God or the way I play the song. I know I have an commitment to play my instrument skillfully but there are times that I’m totally carried away and I want to stop what we are doing and just raise my hands. With Asbury’s songs that mostly composed of 4 chords, you can play the song easily and focus on worshiping God. Maybe because I’m not that good musician because I can’t do both things especially on difficult songs that requires my full attention. I hope someone can relate on me in this part 🙂

Cory Asbury opened up my eyes with other music to listen which I’m also excited to work with. I’m looking forward to fill this website with different inspiring songs not only from popular artist but all musicians I’m going to discover in my journey working this project.

Only Takes A Moment (Cory Asbury)

Artist: Cory Asbury
Words and Music: Cory Asbury, Jason Ingram & Paul Mabury
Album: Reckless Love
Release: 2018
Tempo: 134 beats per minutes
Key: E
Details: I figured out the chords in this song through bass guitar. The song has good groove which I enjoyed a lot playing the bass line. It has also fast chord progress that will be challenging to play on acoustic guitar. But overall the song is easy to play as it has only 4 chords and almost the same progression of E-F#-G#m-B.

The song is about declaration of what God can do. And everything including our brokenness and hopelessness can be fixed and it only takes a moment. We must believe that God can do everything and this is in an instant. But how lovely to think about that it is only takes a moment for Him to do everything and yet He  sent His Son as sacrifice for all of us.

If there are times we think of losing hope, let us remember that He can do everything as what the song talks about – everything. If He surrendered His Son for us, I’m very sure that there is nothing impossible for Him to do for us.

Garments (Cory Asbury)

Artist: Cory Asbury
Words and Music: Cory Asbury, Nate Moore & Tony Brown
Album: Reckless Love
Release: 2018
Tempo: 79 beats per minutes
Key: F#
Details: The song telling us that despite how negative we see things, still God will make it positive beyond we can imagine. Because God is God of positivity even in sacrifice He saw it as triumph for us.

Regarding with this song and just like with any of his songs, it is easy to play with only 4 chord progression. What I found difficult Cory Asbury’s songs are being on key of B. For beginners, it is not easy to play a song with F# and B throughout the song. It requires finger endurance to keep the song of chords accurate. To make it easier to play you can put a capo on 2nd fret and play the song in D-E-F#m-A chord progression. Continue reading Garments (Cory Asbury)

Endless (Cory Asbury)

Artist: Cory Asbury
Words and Music: Cory Asbury, Hank Bentley, Jason Ingram & Mia Fieldes
Album: Reckless Love
Release: 2018
Tempo: 79 beats per minute
Key: E
Details: A very powerful song from verse to chorus. I really like how Cory Asbury sing the “measureless” part. Another easy yet moving song to play. If find difficulty playing for the G#m & F# chord, you can use a capo on 3rd fret and play Bm-G-D-A chords.

Death Where Is Your Sting (Cory Asbury)

Artist: Cory Asbury
Words and Music: Cory Asbury
Album: Reckless Love
Release: 2018
Tempo: 79 beats per minute
Key: C
Details: I remember one of elders in a local renewal movement I attended saying that we should celebrate more in Jesus’ resurrection than Christmas day contrary on our custom. It is because the resurrection day is a proof that everything in Jesus teachings are true and will come true.

Death is inevitable and admit it we are fear of it. Even most people who wants to go to heaven afraid of death. Jesus understand our fear of it so He shown the way and prove how this fearful thing can do nothing against him.

Corinthians 15:55-57, “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

In this verse, death also signifies sin and sin has no power over God through Jesus Christ.

About the song, one of my favorite from Cory Asbury. It has a powerful chorus that is easy to remember both melody and lyrics. Continue reading Death Where Is Your Sting (Cory Asbury)

Your Love Is Strong (Cory Asbury)

Artist: Cory Asbury
Words and Music: Caleb Culver, Cory Asbury, Daniel Laguna & Veronica Harris
Album: Reckless Love
Release: 2018
Tempo: 67 beats per minute
Key: Db
Details: This album talks about love several times from the title itself, to love is strong, love is limitless, love is beyond our comprehension.

From the song, it says that God’s love is strong enough even to those who don’t believe or in fear of hopelessness. It is beyond our thoughts, that is why He sent His Son to us so we can understand His perfect love which is difficult for us human to behold. Continue reading Your Love Is Strong (Cory Asbury)

Born Again (Cory Asbury)

Artist: Cory Asbury
Words and Music: Amanda Cook, Cory Asbury & Steffany Gretzinger
Album: Reckless Love
Release: 2018
Tempo: 64 beats per minute
Key: F#
Details: John 3:3, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

I remember when I’m attending a local prayer meeting group, they said that the only way for us to know that God is working with you is when we see changes in your life. As born again (not a religion) there will be changes through Christ building our lives. We can easily say that we are attending religious group now, that we are singing praise and worship songs but this is all worthless if there will be no changes to see in our lives. Endless Alleluia (Cory Asbury)

Artist: Cory Asbury
Words and Music: Cory Asbury, Brian Johnson, Rian Johnson & Ricky Jackson
Album: Reckless Love
Release: 2018
Tempo: 77 beats per minute
Key: D
Details: This is my favorite song from the album. Easy to play yet melody will get stuck on your head from a couple of times listening to it. This what made me encourage to complete all the songs included in Reckless Love album.

The song reminds me endless reason to praise God. The song made me to stop for a moment, think of how good God is. For that moment, I shouldn’t worry on anything because God is there and like what He did yesterday He will do the same today and tomorrow because His love is unending. You Won’t Let Go (Cory Asbury)

Artist: Cory Asbury
Words and Music: Brian Johnson, Caleb Culver, Cory Asbury & Jason Ingram
Album: Reckless Love
Release: 2018
Tempo: 77beats per minute
Key: Db
Details:  Romans 8:38, “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow–not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”

Have you ever thought  of yourself being sinful that God can’t forgive your sins? Sometimes I become hopeless for myself wondering if God can still forgive me. What if I meant to be condemned or the villain in God’s eyes, like Pharaoh who God himself hardened Pharaoh’s heart (which I don’t understand).

Romans 8:38 reminds me that nothing in this world or anything can separate us from the love of God. He won’t let us go. Just hold on. Continue reading You Won’t Let Go (Cory Asbury)

Water and Dust (Cory Asbury)

Artist: Cory Asbury
Words and Music: Cory Asbury
Album: Reckless Love
Release: 2018
Tempo: 83 beats per minute
Key: F#
Details: God is not yet done on us. He still making something out of nothing and He is never finished in doing something extraordinary in our lives in case that we lose our hope. Like most people living in pain and difficulties, I also felt giving up like saying, “Oh God I’m so tired, I want to experience now your promise.”

But this song reminds me of whatever happens, we should never give up. Continue reading Water and Dust (Cory Asbury)
