People – 2019 Hillsong Album

People is Hillsong’s 2019 Album that focus on awaking churches and individuals to the reality that Jesus redeemed and called to be part of the story of God. From the album cover it tells about several people, different people around the world that united as as one. As most of their songs talks about inspiring everyone throughout the difficulty of life into unity with God and with church as one.

The album also speaks about the reality being people, we are all flawed but that is not the end of the story, because God’s love poured in our life and bring the best of it, all we have to do is to accept it, accept His Son Jesus Christ and together be united again as pure.

Good Grace (Hillsong)

Artist: Hillsong United
Words and Music:  Joel Houston
Album: People
Release: 2019
Details: This song has been released on 2018 but actually this would be part of their upcoming album for this year, People. As I worked with the chords, I can’t avoid being confused this song’s melody with With Everything.  I don’t know but it has a huge resemblance for me that leads me to confusion. Maybe, it’s because both songs are from Joel Houston.

As for the song difficulty, at first, it might get difficult for you how the chord will progress from A-Asus-A but if you are going to listen to the song carefully you will notice how chords change from A then going to Asus and the then back again to A.

Also I want to stress out with the instrumental part. I suggest to just feel the song and not to follow the exact chord alignment from the chanting part that even me took it hard to follow. So instead just know the chord pattern and play it with your feel with the timing on when you should change your chord.

I want you also get reminded that there are several versions of the song you can find online. And since I wrote this before the release of their full album, I based this song from their first released or known to be the live version taken last year. In case that there will be changes later on once they made a new version for the album, please be guided carefully that there will be changes on how the song progress from verse to chorus and so on. This also works on acoustic version of the song. So always be guided since Hillsong are releasing more than a single version which made a difference.

Overall, just like their other songs, the chord progression are still the same. Sometimes there will be a key differences but how you can play the song is still the same. Continue reading Good Grace (Hillsong)

Whole Heart (Hold Me Now) by Hillsong

Artist: Hillsong United
Words and Music:  Joel Houston & Aodhan King
Album: People
Release: 2019
Details: The song is easy to play once you listen to it a couple of times. When I used to learn the chords, I noticed that there was a part that I really don’t need to play the entire chords. Just of for the intro, we can play an E for the entire bar and let the lead guitar play his part. But if you are going to play this song, with acoustic guitar, you should play the family chord of A or E-A-C#m-B so it will complete the harmony of the song.

In instrumental part, you need to play the intro part six times and for the seventh you need only to play E-A while the C#m and so on will proceed to chorus. See that the first chord in chorus is C#m. You can also listen to the song carefully to check the progress of the song. Also take note that Hillsong has different version so expect that there will be difference in how the song progress with verse, chorus etc. But regarding with the chords, they usually use the same chord progression so there is nothing to worry with the chords we indicated below. As You Find Me (Hillsong)

Artist: Hillsong United
Words and Music:  Joel Houston, Matt Crocker & Benjamin Hastings
Album: As You Find Me
Release: 2019
Details: There is a version of this song where you just need to play on D for the entire verse 1 and 2. Actually that was the version I used to based this song, but after checking the chord, I played with different version and discovered both versions. Either way  both songs are in the key of D so it is totally the same when it comes to chord progression.

About the song, it has a very powerful and inspiring message. In times we feel that we are alone, that we are helpless, we can think of, if Jesus sacrificed himself to save us, how can He will leave us now especially we already accepted his gift of salvation. From the very moment, we should claim and Jesus will help us, every time as there is nothing in this world or in heaven above that we can do to separate us from Him. Of how I’ve been set free
                                                        Am
There is a cross that bears the burden

What power set me free

Calvary (Hillsong)

Artist: Hillsong Worship
Words and Music: Joel Houston, Jonas Myrin
Album: No Other Name
Release: 2014
Tempo: 73 beats per minute
Key: G
Details: Calvary is the central theme of God’s redemptive plan started back from the Genesis to Revelation. This is for him to show His love that people can understand. Being God and we as human, it is difficult for us to understand His presence and the best way to explain it is through Calvary.

We don’t like Calvary. It is hard for us to understand. Even the exile from Egypt also questioned the concept of Calvary when they started to complain. Yes it is difficult for us to understand even today in times that we want everything to be easy.

So what God did was sending Jesus Christ so the Calvary that we should be the one to experience, has been carry over to His Son as part of our salvation.

Let’s praise Jesus Christ for what we did. Continue reading Calvary (Hillsong)

Depths (Hillsong)

Artist: Hillsong Worship
Words and Music: Brooke Fraser, Marty Sampson
Album: No Other Name
Release: 2014
Tempo: 79 beats per minute
Key: D
Details: Some people felt that God is not existing anymore. As He is deaf and He is not able to listen to our prayer. Actually is it not the God doesn’t listen but us. We like to talk and talk and we don’t have time in listening to His gentle voice.

Yes He speaks to us in the depth of our heart just like this song tells. From that depth we can listen to his voice and know what He wants for us and not what we want for him to do on our life. He know better than us and He will do better than we can ever imagine.  Continue reading Depths (Hillsong)

Broken Vessels (Hillsong)

Words and Music: Joel Houston, Jonas Myrin
Album: No Other Name
Release: 2014

Details: Personally this is my favorite song in the album. Based from John Newton’s Amazing Grace, broken vessels gave us a new perspective of being saved through the unending love of God.

From this I Believe that it doesn’t matter if we believe in God because He believe on us. And He will find a way for us to believe even in the most unexpected situation. Continue reading Broken Vessels (Hillsong)
