Wonder – 2017 Hillsong Album

This is the fifth studio album from Hillsong United that been released on June 2017 under Hillsong Music and Sparrow Records.

According to Joel Houston he felt that the album’s title and themes is about a wonder in both faith and worship. He added that this is a challenge and this is what actually worship in both expression of art, music and story. And for us to empower the conversation through worship, we need to re-awaken the soul to something that will lift their eyes to wonder of truth.

The album was debuted live during the Hillsong United’s concert in Caeserea, Israel which was recorded in a live video and released on May 24, 2017.

Just like what we are expecting in most of Hillsong’s album it has a good collection of christian songs. At first you will only recognize few songs as your favorite but if you are going to play the entire album over and over, you will like all songs on their list.

Most songs from the album talks about being not afraid as well as God’s love. I really like Greatest of These, Water To Wine, and So Will I.

Seasons (Hillsong)

Artist: Hillsong Worship
Words and Music: Chris Davenport, Benjamin Hastings & Ben Tan
Album: There Is More
Release: 2018
Tempo: 73 beats per minute
Key: C
Details: If we feel that there is no hope in this life. Feeling abandoned like there is no God working in life despite of surrendering our lives to him, be still and listen how this song will encourage us to keep going, keep moving with God and our season will come. It is all a matter of patience.

What really moved me in this song is the last part of the bridge where Ben said that God can save us in second but instead He sent us His son. Can we ever think what does it mean? It is a patience in due time.

Upon listening to the song even more, recognizing chords to post here, I realized that this song is about patience but ironically we don’t like such word. Technology consumes our patience. We don’t want to wait. We want to make it faster, instant. We have instant noodles. We have fast food. We are spending money for latest devices, faster devices, faster computer. We want 50Mbps or 100Mbps. Admit it we want everything to be fast.

But God, He doesn’t work like that. He believes in patience and He also want us to do the same as He sent His Son to us, He wants us to keep holding on until His Son return because the best is still yet to come… our season to come. Continue reading Seasons (Hillsong)

Remembrance (Hillsong)

Artist: Hillsong Worship
Words and Music: Chris Davenport & Benjamin Hastings
Album: There Is More
Release: 2018
Tempo: 70 beats per minute
Key: F#
Details: There were times that we had forgotten what God made for us. There were part in our life that we had forgotten the sacrifice that Jesus did. This song is a good call out for us to remember everything and live our lives as a remembrance of God. In case that we had forgotten, let us ask God to remind us the price He paid for our sin.

This song is perfectly included in “There is More” album since God is still working on us, and He is not finished yet.

It is not also difficult to play this song in church once you familiarize yourself with the timing. The key is to play the song while listening on it and you will hear how Hillsong changes from chord to chord especially on the intro part.

Be Still (Hillsong)

Artist: Hillsong Worship
Words and Music: Ben Fielding & Reuben Morgan
Album: There Is More
Release: 2018
Tempo: 75 beats per minute
Key: F
Details: In trials, sometimes we say if God is still in control or should I start worrying for myself as if He will not be there to help me. Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know I am God. In a word “God” there are countless meaning from it and you can only be still if you know Him.

I remember this verse as an encouragement not only in hard times but also in knowing God. Knowing God means absorbing His words through Jesus, through bible. Because it will be difficult for us to trust someone we don’t know. That is why in Psalm 46:10, there is a declaration of, “know I am God”.

If we know God, and what He is in our lives, it won’t be difficult to be “still”.

About playing song, it is actually very easy to play as it has only 4 chords progression throughout the verse, chorus, bridge and tag. Start listening to song for the rhythm and everything will come easy. Continue reading Be Still (Hillsong)

God So Loved (Hillsong)

Artist: Hillsong Worship
Words and Music: Matt Crocker & Marty Sampson
Album: There Is More
Release: 2018
Tempo: 70 beats per minute
Key: A
Details: I remember when I was attending a prayer meeting, one of the elders said that John 3:16 is the heart of the bible. This is a declaration of God on his love to the world. A world that is cruel to other people. A world full of hate and pain. We often hear “a cruel world” that will makes us think that there is God.

But to this world, God gave His only Son. Do we understand what is this cost?

As a father of two,  I don’t know what will happen to my life if any bad things to any one of them. And I’m very sure I will not do the same, sacrificing my own for other people. It would be so hard, God understand it is so hard. Even with Abraham, He didn’t want to happen it to him.

But He did to Himself through Jesus. Can we understand how we can measure that Love? Again, He did it because he so loved the world that He gave His only Son for our salvation.

Just a reminder with the verse on “to the cross” and “upon the lord” you can insert a “D” chord on it in case you are playing alone so it will not become blank. But in case of how Hillsong play the part, instead of inserting a chord, they make a delay and play an “E” chord.

That is how I listened to it and you can insert both D and E chords as long as you are able to play it in timing. Overall, this song is easy to play with very powerful message reminding how God love us. Continue reading God So Loved (Hillsong)

Valentine (Hillsong)

Artist: Hillsong Worship
Words and Music: Scott Ligertwood, Brooke Ligertwood & Chris Davenport
Album: There Is More
Release: 2018
Tempo: 81 beats per minute
Key: F
Details:  I searched about Valentine or St. Valentine or known to be the reason for celebrating February 14. And I was amazed on what I learned that regards of how Hillsong being protestant acknowledge saint as well as who really St. Valentine is.

From what I researched St. Valentine is not actually a patron of love but as Christian historians. Yes it is not only a single person but several St. Valentines who died on February 14. Two of them were executed during the reign of Roman Emperor Claudius Gothicus in 269-270 A.D., known to be a time of a massive persecution among Christians.

But I wonder how Pentecostal church such Hillsong will use saint as reference. Actually they still refer the song to Jesus but to use a name common to Catholic leaves me in wonder.

Until I found out that as Protestant they still believe and honor saints for their faith but it not the same how Catholic believes on saint. Also, there are some exemption with the saints they honor.

Again the song is about love, just like how other religion honors Valentine as a patron of love, Hillsong refers Jesus as valentine and His love for us.

When it comes to the song, it has very catchy chorus that flashes on my mind over and over. Maybe it is because everything that is honor to your love seems wonderful to me. Actually I thought that there is only few good songs to listen on “There is More” album as how secular music plays around. Usually the first track is only the good song to listen. Also the first track, Who You Say I Am has been released month ago as demo before the entire album released on April 8, 2018.

But actually I was wrong after I heard the entire album. I found great songs including Valentine, Lettered Love, The Passion,  and Touch of Heaven that moved me a lot.  Continue reading Valentine (Hillsong)

The Passion (Hillsong)

Artist: Hillsong Worship
Words and Music: Scott Ligertwood, Brooke Ligertwood & Chris Davenport
Album: There Is More
Release: 2018
Tempo: 143 beats per minute
Key: D
Details: As a christian what does Passion of Christ mean to us? Before I was confused with the word “passion” as I believe that this is about a “desire” for the things you want to do. Like I have passion for music or passion about love.

In different word, specifically from latin, this means “suffering”. Pati meaning to suffer while pass comes from the word meaning capable of suffering.”

At the end of the day, the two different words brought same meaning of what Jesus did for us. His passion, his “desire” is to “suffer” for us, for our salvation.  Continue reading The Passion (Hillsong)

It is about the prosperity of life but it doesn’t necessarily that it deals with earthly possession. Abundant life means living with under God’s will and get our freedom as part of God’s family.

In Hillsong’s pre-release album interview, they emphasized that the album is about something great things that it still yet to come – there is more.
